  13. Oldest Democracy: Iceland is home to what is considered the world's oldest parliament, the Althing, established in 930 AD.

  14. No Standing Army: Iceland is one of the few countries in the world without a standing army. It does, however, have a Coast Guard that maintains Iceland's defense and rescue services.
